What Causes Blackheads and How Are They Treated

Teen Looking At Her Skin

Blackheads are one of the most common types of pimples, especially among people with oily skin. Where it was once believed that blackheads were caused from not washing the skin, it is now known that they are actually caused by oil build-up on the skin.

The “black” appearance of blackheads is caused by the oxidizing of air on the oil clogging the pores and causing the pimple known as a blackhead. The melanin pigment in the skin also contributes to their dark color. The best way to remove blackheads is to remove their cause, excessive oil and dead skin cells.

You should use gentle products to treat and eliminate blackheads. Harsh products can actually strip the skin of needed oil, which, in turn, causes it to produce more oil, which then blocks the pores and causes the process to begin all over again.

Some people prefer using natural products that contain natural oils to cleanse the skin, as they are often more gentle. Many of these oils are close to our natural oils, so they don’t block pores like many synthetic products.

To remove dead skin cells, it is advised to use a gentle exfoliant everyday. This keeps pores from becoming blocked by the dead skin cells. Take care to use this product gently as well, so as not to over exfoliate and irritate the skin.

Stay away from products containing alcohol, mineral oil, and other harsh products that may redden and irritate the skin.

Do not try to forcibly extract blackheads. By picking at or squeezing them, you may remove some of the blackhead, but may also push some of it deeper within the skin, causing further irritation and infection. It is better to use gentle products that will help blackheads dry up and go away on their own.

While this may seem to take longer than ridding of them yourself, it can be better for your skin in the long run because you will be allowing it to heal naturally by itself.

Though diet has been reported to not affect acne, it is still advised that you eat properly. Some physicians still maintain that a proper diet can help decrease oil production, provide proper moisture to the skin, and help facilitate new and healthy skin cells. This, in turn, will decrease the appearance of blackheads, and stop the formation of new ones.

Though as mentioned above, blackheads are often prevalent in people with oily skin, but they can occur with other skin types, though not as often. Carefully choose your skin care products. They are essential to having healthy skin and a healthy complexion. Eat healthy and keep your body well hydrated. Water is essential to healthy skin. If blackheads occur, take the proper steps to eliminate them. Be gentle to your skin. If you are unable to treat blackheads by using over-the-counter products, seek the care of a physician.

Teen

Teen acne probably occurs in almost every teenager! It affects not only their physical appearance, but may also affect their self-esteem and feelings of self-worth. Many teens are often afraid to go to social events or participate in extra activities because they are afraid of how others may see them.

Acne can be caused by a variety of factors, but hormones are believed to be a leading cause of teen acne. Which can also cross over into adult acne. Hormones cause the body to produce excess oil, which in turn clogs pores and causes pimples. The good news is, acne is very treatable and by figuring out its cause, you can find a treatment.

Having acne has nothing to do with what you eat or how often you wash your face, two common myths often associated with this condition. Washing your face too much, however, can cause the skin to become dry and irritated, and may, therefore, irritate existing acne, but it does not actually cause more acne to form.

One of the best ways to combat acne is to try to prevent it. This involves finding its cause and taking measures to treat it. By doing so, you are treating existing acne, while treating the root of its cause.

Since teens often produce more oil than do adults, it is important to wash twice a day with a mild cleanser that won’t irritate or dry the skin. This helps eliminate excess oil, while wiping away any unwanted dirt and bacteria. It is also important to keep the skin properly hydrated and moisturized. Oily doesn’t equal moisture. Skin that is oily must be moisturized as well.

All these things can be accomplished by washing the face. The excess oil will be removed, while the face will be hydrated and moisturized. A moisturizing cream may also help to keep moisture in the skin, which will help prevent it from becoming dry and irritated.

While it is good to exfoliate, it is important that you do not use a harsh product to do so. Use a gentle formula containing small grains. These will be less harsh to your skin and will remove dead skin without irritating the healthy skin and aggravating the acne.

Avoid products that contain substantial amounts of alcohol, as this can cause your glands to produce more oil, or dry and irritate your skin. Instead, use a gentle toner that will help even your skin.

Don’t squeeze or pick at your pimples. This can only cause them to become more inflamed because the bacteria are pushed deeper into the skin!

Choose makeup products wisely. Don’t use products that have cause past breakouts, and use those that are noncometigenic, meaning they won’t clog your pores.

No matter the cause, it is important to find a cure. Find a regimen that works for you and stick to it! If your acne persists, consult a physician. There are medications that can help treat many forms of acne.

Finding a solution will help you feel better about yourself. :-)

What Is The Cause Of Acne Rosacea?

Rosacea
Image via Wikipedia

Acne Rosacea unlike regular acne is more severe because of the blemishes that it leaves on your face. These blemishes are way more noticeable. There have been many theories as to the cause of acne rosacea. For example, one theory is that it is caused by an overproduction of a certain enzyme found within our body.

If you don’t know what acne rosacea is, I will try to explain it (I’m not a doctor though). Usually when someone has acne rosacea, their skin has red bumps that look like pimples but you just can’t seem to squeeze them like a regular pimple. Also, typical is that overall appearance of pink or “blushing” skin and sometimes spider veins on the face.

What can cause it to flare up and get that reddish/ pink skin? Anything that might cause your face to get flushed. For example, embarrassment, anger, even alcohol and exercise.

Adult males who are fitness conscious usually work out a lot, they’re not aware that the excessive sweating that goes along with working out can also be the cause of the adult male acne. Sweat usually contains oil and dirt that clogs up the pores and if they don’t get cleaned immediately it will lead to only more acne. So make sure to clean your face properly after working out. It also helps to not use oily solutions in your hair as it only gets down to your face while sweating and worsens the problem.

Another note to point out is that it occurs more in females than males. Also just for the record this particular skin condition is usually accompanied by inflammation and sometimes a slight burning sensation. If you have ever been sweating excessively you may have noticed that your face sometimes stings from the sweat. If this is the case then you know that the excessive heat and the perspiration that comes with it is one of the main reasons for your acne rosacea. Try to keep your skin cool and see if you notice any difference. Take care.

Cystic acne is probably more likely to occur in women than men. Men don’t have some of the more hormonal problems that women experience that may be the cause of the cystic problems.

For women especially, cystic acne often causes self-consciousness and will usually result in a lot of women trying to avoid being in public too much. When I say hormonal I simply mean chemical imbalances. What are some things that can cause hormonal balances in women that can lead to cystic acne? Here’s one reason you may definitely want to look into if you’re a woman.

Birth Control:

Birth control is supposed to manipulate a woman’s body into believing that she’s pregnant. But sometimes this hormonal manipulation can lead to cystic acne in women. Once the hormones are out of balance some time away from the birth control may be in order to get the hormones back in balance. Now don’t get me wrong, it may not be birth control specifically, but it may be the type of birth control that you’re using. So make sure that you check with your doctor to see if the particular birth control that you’re using is causing any kind of hormonal imbalances in your body. If so, discontinue the use of the birth control immediately and switch to one that doesn’t cause the same problems.

This is just one of the reasons for cystic acne in women. Birth control may or may not be the reason for any one woman’s case of cystic acne. Just understand that the hormonal imbalances I spoke of are very real with women. That’s why you want to make sure you understand how your body works especially if you are female.

Why Do You Get Adult Acne Cysts?

Adult acne cysts are like an advanced form of regular acne. Acne cysts are large lumps that may appear in certain parts of the body as small lumps under the skin. At first you hardly notice them, but after a little time has passed they can become extremely uncomfortable.

Once you’ve had them for a while a little white head will usually appear. Only once you remove this white head does the cyst begin to regress.

Adult acne cysts, depending on where they might be on the body, can be painful. One of the rare cases is for them to appear under the arms. It cannot be said rather certain deodorants cause the cyst to appear or not, but it can be said that it has something to do with excessive heating. This particular example is uncomfortable as the cysts usually grow very large and make it difficult for the person to lift their arms. Once the white head has appeared and has been popped, the cyst will usually go away. I know this may sound disgusting, but that’s what an acne cyst is.

Unlike regular pimples once acne cysts are popped big creamy fluid flows from them accompanied by blood. You’ll notice an immediate difference after the acne cyst has been exposed to air. After a few days the cyst should have completely regressed. If you want to avoid this kind of outbreak now or in the future make sure you take proper care of your skin and make sure you know your body.

There can be any number of reasons why grown men will get adult male acne. Now we all know when you’re a teenager the reasons why acne happens.

What we don’t know is the reason why adult male acne happens. Of course there are a few theories as to why it happens, but none of these can be proven indefinitely. If you want to begin to cure your acne as an adult male first you’ll need to understand the causes for it. Here is one of the causes for the acne you may be experiencing as an adult. Check and see if any of these relate to you.

Using Certain Moisturizers:

Unbeknown to a lot of adults they often use certain moisturizers on their face that are supposed to keep their skin healthy looking , but sometimes these moisturizers that are supposed to help your skin stay healthy end up causing severe acne. The moisturizers can clog up your pores which of course will lead to acne. Another culprit is often times the pores have not been cleaned properly in the first place and dirt and oil still resides deep in them. Thick creamy moisturizers only add to the problem.

.

Now there are many other reasons for adult male acne. But no matter the cause good skin care and proper cleansing should be able to prevent most extreme cases. This is especially the case if you’re an adult male, as adult males usually don’t have more of the hormonal problems that younger males face.
